Send a file
TurboIRC enables you to transfer files
with other chat users .
Select the nick that you wish to give
you the file . Select also a file name . You must select now a
protocol to transfer a file .
- DCC protocol is supported by all
IRC clients , but it is slow
- TDCC protocol is faster , but as
the time of this writing , from the most known clients ,
only PIRCH and VIRC supports the TDCC
- KTP protocol is the fastest if you
plan to transfer files to a large distance . For example
, if you are in europe and you establish a DCC with
australia , 1 MB can take up to an hour ! For these
situations , use the KTP protocol . ONLY TurboIRC can SEND
files with KTP , but any client that can handle events
can ACCEPT files with KTP . See the KTP details for more .
Using file transfers requires the knowledge of the following :
- A user may not accept a send file request
- Using DCC and TDCC transfers makes your IP address
visible to the receipient .
- It is your responsibility , when sending with KTP , to
ensure that the mail returned is valid .
TurboIRC has the ability to continue sending a file that it was
previously sent with failure . See Resuming broken files .
The send dialog box is automatically shown when you drag &
drop a file to a Query Window , or to a list box of a Channel Window .
